Industrial Products Network Update for Friday, July 29, 2022

Date
Jul 29, 2022

BNSF operating teams remain focused on aligning resources with traffic flows as we continue to progress in our service recovery and are positioned to build on momentum going into August.

As reported earlier this week, we have seen improved network conditions and incremental progress in velocity across our Southern Region due to the impact of our temporary permit embargo in California. The number of permits issued has increased 15% week over week, and we expect to continue to increase the number of permits issued weekly as network conditions improve. Customers can refer to our online form to obtain additional information, submit permit requests, and view the current list of commodities exempted from the embargo.

In the second half of the week, we experienced slower train speeds due to severe weather that impacted traffic on the Southern Transcon, specifically on our Seligman Subdivision, which runs between central Arizona and the Arizona/California border. Flash floods and high winds caused some delays to traffic moving through this area. Traffic flows through this location have since normalized.

While hot and dry conditions will remain in place across much of the network, BNSF teams in the Desert Southwest are also monitoring the risk of heavy rain through the weekend. Flash flood watches are currently in effect across much of Arizona and western New Mexico and portions of the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles. BNSF teams will continue to address any track washouts and quickly restore service through affected locations.

As always, we thank you for your business and appreciate the opportunity to serve as your transportation service provider. We welcome your feedback and questions.
