Intermodal Network Update for Friday, June 3, 2022

Date
Jun 3, 2022

BNSF operations across our network remain aligned on driving improved safety, service, and efficiency. As we move into June, car inventory reduction efforts are beginning to yield positive results with greater velocity and productivity levels. While this momentum is inconsistent at times, we are on the right path toward delivering better service performance.

Across our North Region, we have generated performance improvement in recent weeks with generally favorable operating conditions. Average velocity on our coal routes is now at the highest level this year.

In our South Region, we have experienced significant service challenges on our Southern Transcon this week due to high wind events and congestion. The resulting impacts have affected the ability to efficiently utilize train crews, particularly in Southern California. Multiple BNSF teams, including Engineering, Mechanical and Transportation, are currently engaged in a coordinated effort to address train delays and relieve congestion through busy corridors. With the actions being taken, we expect to generate improved capacity and throughput on the Transcon in the days ahead.

We appreciate your patience as we continue to execute our aggressive recovery program. We continue to deploy additional resources, including crew personnel, as quickly as possible in alignment with freight volumes.

As always, we thank you for your business and appreciate the opportunity to serve as your transportation service provider. We welcome your feedback and questions.
