PEB Issues Recommendations

Date
Aug 17, 2022

Dear BNSF Customers,

The Presidential Emergency Board (PEB) issued its recommendations yesterday, August 16, 2022. This action extends the cooling-off period during which no strikes or other self-help is allowed for an additional 30 days to September 16, 2022. BNSF is prepared to meet alongside the other railroads with the rail unions to reach an agreement based on the PEB recommendations as quickly as possible.

The PEB’s recommendations include the most substantial wage increase in nearly 40 years. Even though the recommendations significantly exceeded those proposed by the carriers during this bargaining round and are far above the terms in prior settlements, BNSF is prepared to accept the recommendations brought forward by the PEB. We believe it is in the best interests of our customers, employees and the public for the railroads and rail labor organizations to settle this dispute without delay and prevent service disruptions.

The railroads will work with the unions toward a voluntary agreement prior to September 16. If an agreement is not forthcoming, we will provide additional information, and, of course, we will continue to update you as the situation warrants.

Thank you in advance for supporting our efforts to keep America’s freight moving. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact your marketing representative.

Sincerely,

Steve Bobb
Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer
