Tentative Agreements Reached With All Unions - Strike Threat Averted

Date

Dear BNSF Customers,

I am pleased to inform you that the railroads reached tentative agreements with the three remaining unions. The tentative agreements follow the recommendations of the Presidential Emergency Board (PEB) and are now subject to ratification by the unions’ members. Importantly, these developments avert the immediate threat of a national rail strike. In response to my request late last week, many of you have written or called your Congressional delegations to express concerns over the possibility of a strike or other job action. We believe your active participation made a significant difference. Your letters helped Congress clearly recognize the impact a rail service disruption would have on your business and the U.S. economy, leading to their willingness to intervene. I appreciate your support of these efforts.BNSF will continue normal operations. The actions we had begun to take on a small subset of certain commodities like hazardous and security-sensitive materials, as well as Temperature Controlled Intermodal (TCI), to ensure the safety and security of your freight have been lifted. Additionally, pending gate restrictions at certain intermodal and automotive facilities will not go into effect as announced yesterday. Thank you for again supporting our efforts to keep America’s freight moving. We will continue to update you as the agreements go through the ratification process with the various unions. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact your marketing representative.

Sincerely,

Steve Bobb
